Dartmouth Park is an historic park
located between West Bromwich town centre
and Sandwell Valley.

The Park

The restoration is now in progress, but the park is still looking beautiful on a sunny Monday afternoon in May. Sandwell Stride Health Walkers had to find a new route in the park to avoid areas where the work is being carried out. This meant we passed the dell full of bluebells and walked through the arboretum with its splendid copper beeches adding some dramatic colour to the various shades of green of the other trees.

It was exciting to see the swans and geese taking their new arrivals for an outing. The cygnets and goslings were keeping very close to their parents for safety.

The newly built play area has an extensive range of equipment, and is very well used and greatly enjoyed by the children of the borough. There is soon to be the addition of an outdoor gym called Adizone financed by Adidas as part of their sponsorship of the 2012 Olympic Games.

There are lovely walks in the Park giving sweeping views of the Sandwell Valley and beyond.

The Friends of Dartmouth Park wish to encourage people to see for themselves that, even before its restoration, the park still has much to offer.

The restoration will provide us with the much needed pavilion for refreshments and toilet facilities. However, there are toilet facilities in the Sports Pavilion near the Sandwell Valley entrance to the park and at Sandwell Park Farm, where refreshments are also available.
